I've for a while been wanting to find some roads that are within a reasonable distance from the Birmingham metro area that are fun places to drive, lets put it this way, "Briskly". I've driven Hwy 25, out past Leeds and it was a blast, very curvy and lots of elevation changes, but its plagued by cyclists. That's one fight I would rather not win.
I've also been a passenger on the Cheaha Parkway(Skyway?). That was fun, however its quite a ways out. SO, with that said, I would like this to be a section devoted to great roads here locally where the Law isn't overly abundant, and cyclists aren't keen on it.
And GO!

Hey man, just off of the top of my head..
Sicard Hollow Rd. in between the Summit and Liberty Parkway isn't bad if you hit it late at night (otherwise it's soccer mom and Vestavia police central). You have to be fairly inventive to avoid running into some of the potholes. I'm half convinced that they have left the potholes unfixed in order to scare off enthusiasts. The stretch in between the cross-road of Sicard Hollow/Grants Mill leading to Barber Motorsports is probably the most hassle free.
Grants Mill Road - becomes pothole central the nearer you get the Lake Purdy. The reach in between 459 and Sicard Hollow isn't that bad.
If you follow Hwy 25 in Leeds until it bottoms out into 231, you can take a left at the stop and follow 231 until you run across Co. Rd. 60 (take a right) which will lead you to one of the Lake Logan Martin hydroelectric dams. It's a fairly twisty little road in spots and doesn't have much in the way of traffic.
If you follow Hwy 25 in Leeds until you reach the Dunnavant Volunteer Fire station look to your right for Dunnavant Valley Road, it's long and mostly uninhabited up until you start arriving at Shoal Creek. Not that many cyclists either..
Also, Hwy 55 is a fun drive - it'll take you past Camp Winnataska and a Nudist Camp (lol). Fortunately you can't see if from the road!! It has a ton of twisties.
I can't think of any others at the moment. The roads are great in a pinch if you need to blow off some steam after work. Cheers
